Issue 56: Welcome to The Jungle

This has been an interesting week. There have been so many “first music lessons”; always tough, because you are teaching the ground rules and expectations as well as the very basics of the instruments. I never knew that there were so many wrong ways to hold a ukulele, until my first lessons of teaching it to year 3 children. We forget that they have so little experience of the world. I had to keep reminding myself that they were only seven years old!

This week, you can read about lessons involving drone and ostinato accompaniments, about a packed and wide-ranging lesson with year 1 and 2 and the Bumble Bee song, and a surprise discovery, the Sharmanka Theatre.
